Clovelly – not a museum village, but still inhabited today

Clovelly is a small fishing village in the north-east of Devon. It is situated on the Bristol Channel, just before it flows into the Atlantic Ocean. Around 400 people still live here, some of whom are fishermen. Clovelly itself is a very picturesque village on the cliffs with old white fishermen’s huts and steep stone paths. It has been privately owned for over 250 years and an acceptable entrance fee is charged for its preservation in the large visitor centre.

In the peak season it is overrun with tourists but you can always find quiet places in the off-peak season and immerse yourself in the rather unique atmosphere of Clovelly. It’s up to you if you want to decide whether or not to treat yourself to the tourist gag of a guided ride through the village on the back of a donkey!
