Subtropical Garden in Abbotsbury
Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens on the „Jurassic Coast“ in Dorset are not so well-known, but without doubt particularly beautiful gardens in southern England. In 2015, they were already 250 years old and they offer a variety of rare and somewhat exotic plants in a special microclimate on the south coast of England.
Situated in a valley just behind the coast following the course of a river, the Subtropical Gardens consist of both a Victorian walled garden and hilly woodland. One of the main highlights are the huge rhododendron bushes scattered throughout the garden. There is also a very rewarding climb up the lawn through Magnolia Avenue to the Jurassic Coast View Point with a truly breathtaking view of the coast.
Note: If you are already in Abbotsbury, it’s also worthwhile to walk through the village (perhaps go to a local tea room) and to visit the Abbotsbury Swannery in spring, when the swans breed and raise their offspring.
