Bradford-on-Avon – in the foreground The Town Bridge over the River Avon
Bradford-on-Avon is located in the valley of the River Avon and is characterised by its particularly narrow and sometimes extremely steep roads. As beautiful as the place itself is, the traffic is terrible.
All through traffic has to pass through the centre and the access roads sometimes do not allow oncoming traffic. This means that there is a big problem with daily traffic jams as well as noise and exhaust fumes. However, that should not stop the visitor from walking around this place in peace!

A typical street in Bradford-on-Avon – steep and narrow!

Behind these walls hides the Catholic Church
The Tithe Barn dates from the early 14th century and could be called a type of early tax office. It is well restored and can be visited free of charge.

The Tithe Barn in Bradford-on-Avon
A short distance from the town centre are the locks of The Kennet-and-Avon-Canal which is one of England’s ancient waterways. Nowadays it is only used for tourism, but there is a chance to get a beautiful view of the “Narrowboats” which are narrow but long houseboats.
If you have some time, you should walk in a westerly direction along the old staircase path of the canal. First of all, it takes you past the Tithe Barn and then through beautiful countryside to the Avoncliff Aqueduct.
